Mental Health

Mental health and psychological well-being have long been deeply stigmatized in Jordan and throughout the Arab world, where, despite global progress in dismantling the taboos, these topics are still tinged with shame. Unfortunately, all too often, mental health challenges, such as anxiety and depression, come hand-in-hand with a cancer diagnosis.

Princess Ghida has prioritized addressing mental health needs, including those of cancer patients, and has championed efforts to help remove the stigma attached to psychological well-being in Jordan and the region. In the context of cancer care, this includes establishing a Psychosocial Oncology Program at KHCC, led by an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, psychosocial counselors, social workers, child life specialists, community service specialists, child development experts, teachers, support group members, and dedicated volunteers. The Program offers a wide range of psychosocial services to meet the diverse needs of the Center’s patients and their families.
