Amman, February 7, 2021 - On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC), participated in the "Cancer Prevention and Control redefined amid COVID-19" virtual meeting.
In her keynote address, Princess Ghida said: “Fighting cancer has always been a challenge. But fighting cancer during a pandemic demands colossal efforts and resources. Thus, for the sake of cancer patients, we must mobilize our capabilities and efforts to redirect the world's attention toward the fight against cancer – a challenge I am confident that we will be able to meet."
The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders and promote the exchange of ideas and strategies for combating cancer, particularly while facing the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. The importance of cancer awareness and prevention, following-up with periodic examinations for early detection, and working to change social habits were all highlighted as key components of the fight against cancer.
Organized by the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI) at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), KHCF, and KHCC, the meeting saw the participation of a number of regional medical centers, non-governmental entities, and regional and international experts, as well as KHCF and KHCC representatives. Participants discussed strategies that would help provide the best healthcare for cancer patients.
Approximately 400 physicians, nurses, researchers, NGO representatives, and decision-makers participated in the meeting.
