Amman, January 12th, 2022 – The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC) began the new year by announcing their 2021 achievements in supporting cancer patients, providing comprehensive treatment, and expanding scientific research.
As 2022 begins, Princess Ghida emphasized that KHCF and KHCC’s efforts are entirely devoted to transforming the reality of cancer in the region, with the goal of a cancer-free future.
One of 2021’s most notable accomplishments was announcing the establishment of a new KHCC branch in Aqaba. The new center aims to alleviate the burden of distance during medical treatment for residents of southern Jordan. Additionally, KHCC commenced its provision of outpatient services in the Oncology Center at Al Basheer Hospital after having taken responsibility for supervision, management and full operation of the department through an agreement with Jordan’s Ministry of Health.
In the area of scientific research, HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah honored nine recipients of the 2021 King Hussein Award for Cancer Research. The Award aims to encourage and strengthen cancer research in the Arab world, and in its first year included the participation of 111 researchers from 15 Arab countries.
Princess Ghida noted that 2021 saw many great medical achievements for KHCC, including providing services to 23,100 patients currently in treatment and 5,580 new patients. KHCC’s highly-trained staff also successfully performed 220 bone marrow transplant procedures and Jordan’s first cryogenic kidney cancer freezing procedure.
Thanks to donors’ incredible generosity in support of KHCF’s mission, the treatment costs of 712 underprivileged patients were covered through both Goodwill and Zakat Funds over the course of 2021.
The Jordan Breast Cancer Program continued its efforts to encourage early detection and raise awareness on its importance, with 21,000 women from across Jordan receiving mammograms in 2021. Additionally, 29,434 new subscribers joined KHCF’s Cancer Care Insurance (CCI) program.
It’s worth noting, 2021 also marked the twentieth anniversary of HRH Princess Ghida Talal’s appointment by Royal Decree to serve as Chairperson of KHCF and KHCC
