Amman, 26th May 2021 - HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC), delivered the keynote address in the “Cancer Clinical Trials and Research in the COVID-19 Pandemic Current Status and Future Aspirations" conference, which was held virtually, and organized by the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute at the American University of Beirut Medical Center and KHCF/KHCC.
In her speech, Princess Ghida stated, "Millions of cancer patients worldwide are living in the hope that research will provide them with a breakthrough that could save their lives. There is one critical tool that drives these breakthroughs: clinical trials, which have revolutionized the face of cancer treatment over decades.” Concluding her remarks, Princess Ghida said, “The key is to keep striving, keep researching, keep investigating!”
Regional researchers, doctors, nurses, policymakers and public health workers attended the conference, where they discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic impacts clinical studies and cancer research. Participants also presented solutions to address the challenges posed by the pandemic, and the mechanisms employed to develop and outline new strategies with the aim of encouraging aspiring researchers to start their careers in cancer research.The conference coincided with International Clinical Trials Day on May 20, and recognized the five best research ideas presented during the event by students of medicine, pharmacy and science.
