Amman, January 22nd, 2022 – HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC), announced through social media the arrival of KHCC’s first robotic surgery system. The state-of-the-art system is the first of its kind in Jordan, and will perform major and complex surgeries. The medical team at KHCC performed the first successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumour.

Princess Ghida stated: “We are proud that Jordan has acquired the very latest surgical technology, as this will have a significant impact on the quality of medical treatment we provide to our patients. Keeping pace with the latest treatment developments is a vital part of KHCF and KHCC’s mission to provide comprehensive cancer care to our patients, in line with international standards.”

The new robotic surgery system is considered to be one of medicine’s most modern surgical systems. It allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with more control, precision, and flexibility than that of traditional surgery. The new system minimizes surgical intervention through the use of precise instruments, leading to faster post-surgical recovery and reducing pain. It will also reduce patient waiting times for surgeries.

Robotic surgery will be used for various surgical operations as determined by KHCC’s medical professionals and based on pre-determined criteria. Such operations may include the excisional biopsy of the prostate, kidneys, uterus, and colon.
